COLUMBUS, Ohio–Today, Ohio Right to Life announced support for the presidential candidacy of Donald J. Trump and his running mate, Governor Mike Pence. The PAC issued endorsements for U.S. Senate, Ohio Supreme Court, Congress, and the Ohio General Assembly, emphasizing the importance of maintaining pro-life leadership at all levels of government.

“Our mission is to protect the sanctity of human life, and right now there is no ticket more threatening to that mission than that of Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine,” said Mike Gonidakis, president of Ohio Right to Life. “This November, Ohio’s pro-life voters must come out in full force to shut down the rabidly pro-abortion candidacy of Hillary Clinton and undo the harms of Barack Obama’s eight years in office. Many times over, Mr. Trump has committed himself to appointing pro-life Supreme Court Justices, signing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and protecting religious liberty. Mr. Trump’s commitments provide a stark contrast to Hillary Clinton’s support for partial-birth abortion and late-term abortion, as well as her promised path to appoint pro-abortion Justices and to force taxpayers to pay for abortions. His choice of Mike Pence for Vice President is a solid pro-life pick. Governor Pence is a proven pro-life leader in our neighboring state of Indiana, an outstanding governor whose pro-life record contrasts sharply with the pro-abortion record of Tim Kaine.”

Democratic Party radical pro-abortion platform
Last week, the Democratic Party adopted a pro-abortion platform that calls for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, the often cited federal provision that prevents some federal taxpayer dollars from paying for abortions. Democratic Vice Presidential pick Tim Kaine, who once supported the amendment, said recently that he will stand by Clinton’s proposal to repeal the longstanding bipartisan policy. The Democratic Party platform stands in stark contrast with the will of the people in Ohio, where pro-life leadership in the Ohio House and the Ohio Senate led to the enactment of legislation de-funding Planned Parenthood this year.

“Sadly, the Democratic Party platform has betrayed its pro-life members by selling out to Big Abortion, requiring taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand,” said Gonidakis. “We welcome all Democrats and Independents fleeing this extremism to vote with Ohio Right to Life this election. Hillary Clinton must be stopped, and Donald Trump is the candidate to do it.”

Ohio pro-life leadership – Sen. Rob Portman
Following six years of pro-life leadership and the passage of 17 pro-life laws in Ohio, the Ohio Right to Life PAC is once again endorsing a slate of pro-life leaders who will continue to advance initiatives that build a culture of life. Between 2010 and 2014, abortions in Ohio decreased 25 percent.

“Thanks to Ohio’s pro-life voters, Ohio is showing the country what we can do to protect life when we have pro-life leadership at the helm,” said Gonidakis. “By supporting pro-life leaders like Senator Rob Portman, we can continue to build a culture of life at the national level. Ohio cannot afford to be represented by another pro-abortion Senator in the form of Ted Strickland, who rivals Senator Sherrod Brown in his extremism and disregard for the pro-life values of Ohio voters.”

Gonidakis continued, “We call on all pro-life voters to see the Trump-Pence ticket as the best and only chance for a pro-life administration in November’s election. And we call on Mr. Trump to raise his standards for discourse, acknowledging the dignity of all lives—people of all ethnicities, the abled and disabled—even amidst disagreements. Ohio Right to Life refuses to see another four to eight years of a pro-abortion presidency, and the Supreme Court surrendered to the abortion industry.”
